The program is part of the activities to celebrate the 69th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - 2023).
The event will be attended by writer and journalist Senior Colonel Dang Vuong Hung - author of the book series “Nhung la thu thoi chien Viet Nam” (Letters in Vietnamese Wartime) and “Nhat ky thoi chien Viet Nam” (Vietnamese Wartime Diaries); Mrs. Tran Hong Dung, Standing Vice President of the “Forever in the twenties” club; and writer Senior Colonel Tran Trong Gia, permanent member of the Management Council of the “Soldiers’ hearts” club.
During the program, the speakers will share untold and touching stories about the origins and contents of the letters written by soldiers during wartime. The event will give participants a better understanding of the country’s two resistance wars, especially the Dien Bien Phu Victory which was “world-shaking and resounding throughout the five continents.”
The book “Letters in Vietnamese Wartime”
Among millions of handwritten letters sent by soldiers from the battlefield, journalist Dang Vuong Hung chose 200 outstanding letters for the “Letters in Vietnamese Wartime” book. The book was released by the Truth National Political Publishing House in April 2023 in Ho Chi Minh City.
Through the book, journalist Hung hoped that readers would be able to learn about the nation’s glorious history, especially during wartime. According to journalist Hung, sometimes, letters and diaries conveyed infinitely precious information and documents, revealing the spiritual and material life and culture of the society in the past, explaining the secrets of history, and making our life at present and in the future better.
Colonel Hung shared that most letters’ authors were no longer alive. Still, their small and quick handwriting on old papers has become historical witnesses of the ideals, sacrifice and dedication of young people during wartime.

The exchange program will be held to cultivate noble and humane ideas among youngsters and remind them to always be grateful to previous generations who sacrificed their blood and bones for national independence.
