Vietnam Film Festival opens in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province

The 21st Vietnam Film Festival – 2019 officially opened at a ceremony held in Vung Tau City, the southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau on November 23.

(News) - The 21st Vietnam Film Festival – 2019 officially opened at a ceremony held in Vung Tau City, the southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau on November 23.

The event saw the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, central and local agencies, along with over 1,000 domestic and international artists, experts, film producers, film and media organisations and companies.

The festival aimed to honour the dedication and contributions mde by artists through outstanding cinematographic workstoward the theme of ‘Developing a national, humanistic, creative and integrated cinema industry of Vietnam’.

As many as 104 movies were selected for the competition and screening during the festival.

Accordingly, 74 most outstanding entries will be competed for awards in four categories, including 16 feature films, 29 documentaries, 20 cartoons and 9 scientific films.

On the sidelines of the biennial event, a wide variety of activities will also be held, including the screening of films within a week in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, the exchanges between artists and audiences and students, and an exhibition on Vietnamese seas and islands through the cinematic perspective.

The organising board will also presented awards to best director, screenwriter, actors and actresses.

The festival is expected to provide the audiences and film makers with an overview of the development of cinema in the country and the world.
