Party General Secretary To Lam underlined the military’s indispensable role in realizing the nation’s aspirations, affirming the the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) must remain the backbone of peace, stability, and prosperity at the 12th Party Congress of the VPA, the 2025-2030 tenure, in Hanoi on September 30.

The Party chief emphasized that this congress marks a pivotal moment in shaping a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern military, while also adapting to new demands of national defense and development.

Over the past term, the VPA has not only met all targets but also become a model in organizational streamlining, defense industry breakthroughs, and international integration.

Party General Secretary To Lam addresses the 12th Party Congress of the Vietnam People’s Army on September 30.

General Secretary Lam praised the armed forces’ achievements in strengthening national defense posture and promoting the image of “Uncle Ho’s soldiers” through peacekeeping and humanitarian missions abroad.

He called for continued vigilance, urging the military to safeguard political steadfastness, embrace digital transformation, and enhance innovation in line with the Politburo's Resolution No. 57.

Beyond its combat duties, the VPA is tasked with building trust at the grassroots level, advancing socio-economic growth, and responding to non-traditional security challenges.

To Lam stressed that the Party’s direct and absolute leadership over the military remains immutable, demanding strong Party building, integrity, and discipline within its ranks.

General Phan Van Giang, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission and Minister of National Defense, delivers the opening speech.

Expressing confidence, he envisioned the VPA as the core force ensuring Vietnam’s peaceful development, national resilience, and steady path toward socialism.

The congress will continue its sessions and conclude on October 2.
