The Hanoi Tourism Ao Dai Festival 2024 has been designated as a key event to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).

This year’s festival will showcase the heroic stories of Hanoi over the past 70 years, featuring a variety of activities. The event was organized by the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the Hanoi Women's Union, the Hanoi Youth Union, and related agencies.

The festival’s opening ceremony, themed "Hanoi - The Essence of Ao Dai," took place on October 4 at the Doan Mon Square, Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center. This event aims to revive the historical imagery of Hanoi, showcasing numerous performances, dances, and fashion shows that reflect the city’s resilient spirit and ongoing development.

A highlight of the festival is the Ao Dai Carnival, organized by the Hanoi Women's Union, which occurred on October 5 at the Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center and nearby streets.

The carnival featured a large-scale performance, "Capital Women Integrating and Developing," designed to promote love for the ao dai among residents, friends, and international visitors of all ages and genders.

The ao dai parade reached 579 communes, wards, and towns across the city, further celebrating this traditional attire.

Additionally, the "Ao Dai Night" program involved 70 Vietnamese designers from across the North, Central, and South, with a special showcase featuring the ao dai worn by ambassadors' spouses on October 5.

On October 6, the final round of the ao dai design competition attracted fashion design students from local universities and colleges, encouraging talents and spreading love for the ao dai (traditional long dress) within the community.

Alongside the main events, the festival also includes an exhibition space showcasing ao dai from renowned designers and brands, as well as tourism products and traditional craft services related to the traditional long dress.

Approximately 80 booths will be set up within the Thang Long Imperial Citadel to promote and display ao dai products and accessories from famous designers, regional brands, airlines, travel agencies, hotels, restaurants, and traditional craft villages in Hanoi and beyond.

This year’s festival aims to honor the beauty of traditional long dress, showcasing its elegance and practicality to encourage its regular use in daily life and at significant events throughout the year.

This annual festival, in its third edition since its inception in 2022, continues to celebrate and elevate the cultural significance of the ao dai.
