President Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended a ceremony in Hanoi on January 9 to launch a campaign on creating children’s literary works, and present the first young author award.

The campaign focuses on two genres of prose and poetry, and lasts for five years from late 2021 to May 2025. It is divided into two phases with the first from January 2022 to June 2023, and the second from July 2023 to July 2025.
The campaign aims to, through writing literature books, praise, encourage, and honour the good virtues, actions and thoughts, thereby inspiring, fostering and enriching children's souls, making them to become good and helpful people in the future.
The annual Young Author Award honours excellent literary works of the year in four categories of poetry, prose, theory - criticism and literary translation of authors aged 35 and under. This year, the winners include Ly Huu Luong and Phuong Dang (Poetry), Dinh Phuong (Prose), Vu Thi Trang (Theory - criticism) and Nguyen Binh (Literary translation).

Speaking at the ceremony, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasised the position and role of writers and their works in the life and the nation building and safeguarding cause, especially the valuable literary works with pervasive and timeless influences.
Literature creation for children is an interesting and meaningful topic that needs to be strongly encouraged and spread as dreams, desires and ambitions should be nurtured from an early age until adulthood and literature is the source of the soul's nourishment, he added.
The President called on Vietnamese writers and the whole society to give the best to children for the future of the nation.
