Opening of the 2025 Military Women’s Sports Festival

Friday, 20/06/2025 06:34

On the morning of June 17, the Ministry of National Defense’s Committee for the Advancement of Women officially launched the 2025 Military Women’s Sports Festival at the Hanoi Capital Command.

The event is a practical activity to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025). It also aims to promote the implementation of the cultural development strategy within the People’s Army of Vietnam toward 2030 and support the military-wide campaign “Following Uncle Ho’s example in physical training – Stay healthy to build and defend the Fatherland.”

Attending the opening ceremony were: Senior Lieutenant General Lê Huy Vịnh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense, and Head of the Committee for the Advancement of Women in the Ministry of National Defense, who presided over the event; Ms. Nguyễn Thị Tuyến, Member of the Party Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Women’s Union; along with representatives from central agencies and Hanoi city.

In his remarks, Senior Lieutenant General Lê Huy Vịnh emphasized: “In recent years, under the leadership of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, as well as the General Department of Political Affairs, women’s affairs and the advancement of gender equality within the military have seen significant progress, leaving a meaningful mark and generating broad, positive impacts. Currently, nearly 70% of female military members regularly engage in at least one sport, with more than 1,000 clubs, groups, and associations at grassroots women's unions. This is living proof of the strong, self-driven momentum of physical fitness and sports among military women.”

At the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Lê Huy Vịnh and Ms. Nguyễn Thị Tuyến presented commemorative flags to participating agencies and units.

The 2025 Military Women’s Sports Festival brings together 51 non-professional sports delegations, featuring 112 teams and nearly 1,300 female participants from units across the armed forces. Immediately after the opening ceremony, 35 teams competed in the "dance fitness" segment, incorporating officially designated military dance moves, while two women’s doubles badminton matches also took place.

From June 18 to June 21, the festival will continue with matches in volleyball (light ball version) and women’s doubles badminton. The closing ceremony is scheduled for June 23, 2025.

According to the organizers, this festival serves as a source of encouragement for military women to actively and proactively improve their physical fitness through engaging, appropriate activities. It also promotes the development of well-rounded military women—strong in political will, bright in ethics, skilled in expertise, and fit in body - who contribute to building model units and families that are “prosperous, progressive, happy, and civilized.” The event reinforces women’s role in the construction of a revolutionary, regular, elite, and increasingly modernized military, ready to meet the demands of the new era.

This meaningful event is organized for the second time by the Military Women’s Board, the standing agency of the Committee for the Advancement of Women under the Ministry of National Defense, in coordination with the Hanoi Capital Command and member agencies. The first edition of the festival was held in 2022 at the Mieu Mon National Training Center.
