The Vietnam Writers’ Association on February 14 held a ceremony to award winners of the Literature Awards 2021 and announce new members in the presence of Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, member of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and head of the PCC’s Commission for Information and Education.
This year, the Vietnam Writers’ Association received 216 entries for the awards.
After two qualifying and final rounds, the organizers decided to award four authors with four best works.
Awarding the winners
In particular, in the prose category, writer Nguyen Binh Phuong was honored for the novel “Mot vi du xoang” (A mediocre example).
Author Truong Dang Dung was the winner in the theory and critics category for his research on literary texts and the instability of meaning.
The translation of the novel ‘Out of Africa’ by Isak Dinesen brought translator Ha The Giang the award in the translation category.
The winner of the children’s literature prize was “Mua tieu hoc cuoi cung” (The final year of primary school) by late author Le Van Nghia.

No winner was named for the poetry category.
Also at the ceremony, the Vietnam Writers’ Association admitted 34 new members.
Addressing the event, Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia congratulated the awards winners and new members of the association.
He highly praised innovative thinking and practical activities of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers’ Association of the 10th tenure.
He expressed his hope that with talent, enthusiasm, and creativity, writers will compose numerous valuable works and contribute to building the Vietnamese culture and people.
He also asked ministries, departments and localities to pay attention to the development of literature – an art form that crystallizes typical cultural values of the nation.
