Residents and visitors to the exhibition "Hanoi: A Time to Remember" have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant streets of Hanoi across various eras.
The exhibition features 86 previously unpublished black-and-white photographs by photographers Andy Soloman and Le Bich, capturing Hanoi's journey from memory to the present over the past 30 years, beginning in the early years of the Doi Moi (Renovation) period, through a meticulously curated collection of images taken between 1992 and 2012.
This exhibition promises to be a captivating destination as the city celebrates the 70th anniversary of its liberation on October 10, 1954.
The event will run until October 31 at the heritage house located at 49 Tran Hung Dao - 46 Hang Bai in Hoan Kiem District, in honor of the 70th anniversary of Hanoi's liberation.
During the opening ceremony on October 10, Tran Thi Thuy Lan, Deputy Head of the Hoan Kiem Lake Management Board, remarked that the exhibition reflects the deep affection of a person who was born and raised in Hanoi, witnessing its many transformations.
Moreover, this love for Hanoi also resonates with those who unexpectedly arrive in the city and find themselves captivated, as is the case with the British photographer whose emotional works feature prominently in the exhibition, she underlined.
Photographer Andy Soloman said: "My love for this city is hard to describe. From the very first moment I set foot here, I was drawn to its land and the warmth of its people."
Andy Soloman, born in 1962, first visited Hanoi in October 1992. He lived in the city for about seven years and frequently returned in the following years. His photographs capture a city and its people during a transformative period as the Doi Moi reforms were implemented.
“I hope these photographs will serve as a poignant note in the song of Hanoi, like a ray of afternoon sunlight illuminating the ancient temple gates that have faded with time, or a golden daisy in the flower garden by the lake in autumn... encouraging us to cherish what Hanoi has today,” said photographer Le Bich.
Le Bich, born in 1972 in Hanoi, has received numerous awards and has a particular passion for the art, culture, and traditions of Vietnam. He has held several exhibitions in Hanoi, the most recent being "Mother's Love" at the Vietnam Women's Museum in 2024.
