Navy officers and soldiers from Radar Station 600 of the 551st in the Naval Region 5 Command, prepared to celebrate Tet with a traditional Chung cake wrapping activity alongside representatives of companies and press agencies from southern provinces and cities on Nam Du Island in the southern province of Kien Giang.
Lieutenant Commander Hoang Van Thuan, political officer at Radar Station 600, said that Chung cake, wrapped uniformly, symbolizes the discipline of the military. Participating in the activity allows soldiers to learn about the traditional customs of different regions.
The unit will use banana and coconut leaves instead of dong leaves to wrap Chung cake.
Ho Quy Nhi, a representative from the Ca Mau Provincial Youth Union, is wrapping Chung cake for the first time with the officers and soldiers.
Chung and Tet cakes are imbued with unique flavors from the banana and coconut leaves, enhanced by the salty essence of the Southwestern sun and wind.
Radar Station 600 is tasked with monitoring, detecting, and managing low-altitude maritime and aerial targets, promptly reporting to command headquarters. This mission plays a crucial role in safeguarding the sovereignty of the country’s southern continental shelf.
