Sharing their inspiration for photographing Vietnam, Edwartz and Johansson noted that their affection for the country began during a business trip in 1988 to assess Swedish investments. Since then, they have visited Vietnam multiple times to document its transformation over the years.
At the event, Nguyen Quang Thieu, President of the Vietnam Writers’ Association, remarked that the photographs by Edwartz and Johansson reflect a period in Vietnam marked by poverty and hardship, yet reveal the profound resilience of the Vietnamese people.
Photographer Na Son praised the works of Edwartz and Johansson, describing them as a gentle and simple love for Vietnam, rather than showcasing the grand and dramatic aspects of its beauty.
He emphasized that these documentary photographs provide valuable resources for Vietnamese photographers to discuss the country's changes across different eras.
